Henrique Paula, Ph.D.
Vice President, Asia Pacific Operations

Henrique Paula is Vice President, Asia Pacific Operations of ABS Consulting. Prior to his current position, he served as Vice President, Risk Consulting International Operations of ABS Consulting (2003-2006), and as Vice President of ABS Consulting's South America Region (1999-2002).

Prior to joining ABS Consulting, Dr. Paula worked for one of the world's leading process safety management firms, JBF Associates (JBFA), which was acquired by ABS Group of Companies Inc. in 1998. During his 15 years at JBFA, Paula served in a variety of roles from research scientist, systems engineer, project manager to senior technical director.

Dr. Paula received his bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from the Instituto Nacional de Telecomunicações, Brazil; master's degree in Nuclear Science from the Instituto de Pesquisas Energéticas e Nucleares, São Paulo , Brazil; and his Ph.D. from the University of Tennessee (dissertation and course work in risk analysis), Knoxville, Tennessee.

With about 30 years of engineering experience, Dr. Paula's expertise is in performing risk management/process safety management (PSM) activities and risk and reliability analyses. He participated in over 100 projects in a variety of industries from offshore oil & gas to nuclear to the petrochemical industry, and he has authored or co-authored more than 100 reports and papers for leading trade journals and industry associations. He served as guest editor for a special issue of the journal Reliability Engineering and System Safety and is a certified reliability analyst. He has provided consulting and training services in 30 countries.
