Natural Hazard Evaluations/Planning

All Hazard System Analysis
Seismic analyses have been conducted for water treatment facilities for almost all natural hazards which have historically affected above grade and below grade water treatment facilities, including earthquakes, flooding, firestorms, hurricanes, and other extreme loads.

Construction Management
ABS Consulting has the capability of taking hazard mitigation from conceptual analysis to design, through construction management. Our construction management staff have specialized experience in risk retrofit construction projects.

Financial Risk Management Consulting
Many financial options exist for risk management. Options include: insurance, retrofit, reconstruction, CAT Bonds, and a certain level of risk acceptance. Read More

Hydroelectric Facilities
ABS Consulting’s experience has involved dams and power generation stations, including concrete and earth dams, as well as the power generation facilities themselves.

Network Analysis
ABS Consulting was the lead firm in developing the Federal Emergency Management Agencies (FEMA) HAZUS™ software. ABS Consulting has performed both probabilistic and finite element analysis for such projects. ABS Consulting has also developed risk management strategies for complex interconnections of multiple districts.

Retrofit Design
In some cases, retrofit design can be the most cost effective method for risk reduction. ABS Consulting can help utilities study the benefits of seismic retrofit concurrent with other capital improvement planning efforts.

Utility Interdependence Studies
Utilities are highly interrelated and dependent on one another. Relationships may range from interconnections of water mains, to dependence on electrical power. Assessing and planning for risks related to these interrelationships is key to a thorough emergency response plan.

Water Treatment Seismic Evaluations
Treatment facilities evaluated have ranged from less than 1 mgd to 400 mgd. Evaluations have addressed earthquakes, flooding, firestorm, extreme windstorm, and other hazards. Evaluations and retrofit designs have been developed for treatment facilities, storage facilities, wells, pump stations, piping, and equipment.
